Jeanne Haley
Jeanne Haley is a founding member and director of Mpower, a KwaZulu-Natal based organisation working with vulnerable children and youth, with a particular focus on youth-headed households. In the format of individual and group workshops, Mpower collaborates with vulnerable children and youth in re-authoring their lives in a way that helps to free them from the problem-saturated stories of their past and present and to open the way for new possibilities. Jeanne has a Masters Degree in Psychology (UKZN). Her focus areas are narrative psychology, youth identities and community work. Jeanne has attended training in Narrative Therapy with psychologist and Narrative Therapist Dr Elize Morkel and training in facilitation and group work with psychologist and facilitator Dr Jude Clark as well as training and mentorship in Narrative Theatre by psyhologist and facilitator Prof. Yvonne Sliep (www.narrativefoundation.org). She has also attended Training for Transformation courses (www.trainingfortransformation.co.za) targeted at emerging community leaders and change agents.
Phelo Muyanga
Phelo Muyanga is Mpower’s programme co-ordinator. She has completed a BAdmin degree majoring in Human Resources and a certificate in Brain Based Life Coaching. She draws her inspiration from seeing young people grow and develop the skills and confidence needed to take advantage of opportunities. Phelo is a life coach and a skilled and experienced group facilitator. Phelo has attended training in Narrative Therapy with psychologist and Narrative Therapist Dr Elize Morkel and training in facilitation and group work with psychologist and facilitator Dr Jude Clark as well as training and mentorship in Narrative Theatre by psyhologist and facilitator Prof. Yvonne Sliep (www.narrativefoundation.org). Bongiwe Mthembu
Bongiwe Mthembu works as a community worker and group facilitator for Mpower . Bongiwe holds a Lifeline certificate in Couselling. She has completed training in Home-based care and first aid at St Johns, caring for the terminally ill at Highway Hospice, Diabetes Management at Entabeni Hospital, Parent Effectiveness by Gordon Training International, Early Childhood Development by Hope Worldwide and Personal Growth and Counselling Skills at Lifeline. Bongiwe is particularly passionate about helping young people who have lost hope and encouraging them not to give up. She has attended training in Narrative Therapy with psychologist and Narrative Therapist Dr Elize Morkel and training in facilitation and group work with psychologist and facilitator Dr Jude Clark as well as training and mentorship in Narrative Theatre by psyhologist and facilitator Prof. Yvonne Sliep (www.narrativefoundation.org). Nonhlanhla Mpuku
Nonhlanhla Mpuku works as a community worker and group facilitator for Mpower. Nonhlanhla has trained in First Aid, HIV/AIDS awareness, Counseliing and she holds an Early Childhood Development certificate from Embury College. Nonhlanhla has attended Dr Elize Morkel’s Community and Trauma workshop and training in Narrative Theatre by Prof. Yvonne Sliep. Nonhlanhla finds working with young people challenging and exciting. She understands the pressures that young people are facing today and believes they need to have a positive voice speaking into their lives.
